Chengdu has two major airports—including Tianfu International Airport Terminal 1, the exclusive hub for all international flights—and four railway stations, offering seamless connections between airports, city, and train stations.
Chengdu Tianfu International Airport (TFU)
🌍 Primary international gateway to Sichuan
Terminal 1 (T1) of Tianfu International Airport handles all international arrivals. It is located approximately 50 km from downtown Chengdu.
Transportation options:
- 🚌 Airport shuttle bus: Operate 24 hours a day
- 🚕 Taxi: Approx. RMB 200 to downtown Chengdu
- 🚇 Metro:
- Line 18 and Line 19 provide fast access to the city center
- Line 19 also connects Tianfu and Shuangliu airports
Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport (CTU)

Shuangliu Airport currently operates domestic flights only, and is just 16 km from downtown — ideal for intercity or regional connections.
Transportation options:
- 🚌 Airport shuttle bus: Operate 24 hours a day
- 🚕 Taxi: Approx. RMB 40 to downtown Chengdu
- 🚇 Metro:
- Line 10 and Line 19 connect directly to the city center
- Line 19 also links Shuangliu and Tianfu airports for convenient airport transfers
🚉 Chengdu East Railway Station
⭐ Top choice for most travelers
The main high-speed rail hub with frequent services connecting major cities including Chongqing, Xi’an, and Jiuzhaigou; ideal for long-distance travel.
Transportation options:
- 🚌 Bus: Extensive routes serve the entire city; note there are two bus stations (north and south plazas) — don’t get them confused!
- 🚕 Taxi: Approximately RMB 15 to downtown Chengdu
- 🚇 Metro: Lines 2 and 7 connect directly to downtown and other city areas
🚉 Chengdu South Railway Station
📍 Best for regional travel within Sichuan
Mainly serves high-speed trains to nearby destinations such as Leshan, Emeishan, Yibin, Zigong, and Luzhou; conveniently located close to the city center.
Transportation options:
- 🚌 Bus: Multiple lines connect the station with downtown and surrounding districts
- 🚕 Taxi: Approximately RMB 20 to downtown Chengdu
- 🚇 Metro: Lines 1 and 7 connect directly to downtown and other city areas
🚧 Chengdu Railway Station (North Station)
⚠️ Currently under renovation
The old station is temporarily closed due to major renovations; not recommended for travelers.
Transportation options:
- 🚌 Bus: Limited service due to construction
- 🚕 Taxi: Available but access may be restricted
- 🚇 Metro: Line 1 operates with limited access due to renovation
🚉 Chengdu West Railway Station
🐢 Limited use — mostly regular-speed trains
Primarily serves slower trains with lower fares and sleeper cars, catering mostly to travel toward remote areas and specific routes.
Transportation options:

- 🚕 Taxi: Approximately RMB 20 to downtown Chengdu
- 🚇 Metro: Line 4 connects to downtown and other parts of the city
